Crushers Win First Road Series In Marion Since 2013

Crushers win the game by a final score of 4-2 over Southern Illinois

AVON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy Health, won their first series at Rent One Park in six years with a 4-2 victory over the Southern Illinois Miners.

The Crushers (52-41) improve to 5-4 against the Miners this season with the win. While the Miners (51-42) have now lost their sixth game in their last 10.

Sam Curtis (2-1) picked up the win tonight as he gave up two runs on six hits, walked two and struck out four over his 6.0 innings of work. Ryan McAuliffe (6-4) earned the loss as he gave up four runs on six hits over 6.2 innings of work. Seth Lucio (6) picked up the save as he shut the door on the Miners in the ninth.

Lake Erie’s offense started hot and built up an early lead in this one. Three runs came across to score in the top of the first for the Crushers. Logan Farrar got the offense going with a one out double and then scored moments later on Steven Kraft’s single. Dale Burdick provided the next two runs of the inning with one swing. Burdick hit a towering fly ball over the left field fence to make it a 3-0 lead. The homer for Burdick was his 12th of the season.

Southern Illinois answered back with a run in the first with a solo homer hit by Gianfranco Wawoe.

The Miners second run of the game came via the long ball again in the second. Arturo Nieto hit a solo home run to lead off the inning and cut the deficit down to one. But that would be the last run of the game for the Miners.

Jake Vieth destroyed his 18th homer of the year in the fourth to add an insurance run for the Crushers. Hector Roa of the Washington Wild Things tied Vieth for the league leader in homers before the game, but now Vieth stands alone as the league leader in home runs.

The Crushers will start their a three-game with the Joliet Slammers on Friday at DuPage Medical Group Field in Joliet, Illinois. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CST.
