Crushers Catcher Signs with Phillies Organization

(March 2: Avon Ohio) The Lake Erie Crushers, who are presented by Akron Children’s Hospital, announced today that Crushers Catcher Karl Ellison has been signed by the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

Ellison, who played his college baseball at Lynn and Vanderbilt Universities, is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. He appeared in 93 games with the Crushers over the past 2 seasons, hitting 256 last year with 8 home runs. Ellison is the 2nd Crushers Player to be signed during the off-season, following Pitcher J.T. Perez who was signed by the Detroit Tigers in February.

“Karl Ellison is the type of player that every manager wishes he had”, stated Crushers Manager Cam Roth. “He is the epitome of what this Frontier League is all about, grinding through months and years to get to where he wanted to be and we could not be happier for him from a coaching staff an organization and most importantly on personal level.”

The Crushers will open their 2022 campaign with exhibition games at Mercy Health Stadium Thursday May 5th and Saturday May 7th, with the regular season home opener scheduled for Friday May 13th.
