Harris Homers, Eisenbarger Dazzles Again in Win In Florence

Florence, KY – Despite the win streak coming to an end on Friday, the Lake Erie Crushers (21-10) got right back to work against the Florence Y’alls (10-19) on Friday night. A solid pitching matchup was the storyline, with the Crushers taking the game, 3-2.

Lake Erie’s starting pitcher was none other than LHP Jack Eisenbarger, the reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week, coming fresh off of his no-hitter against Trois-Rivieres. Florence would put the back-to-back allegations to rest, logging their first hit of the game with the leadoff hitter, 2B Ed Johnson.

Eisenbarger would require some help in the 1st. With one out and runners at first and second, a blooper down the left field line fell into a Bermuda Triangle, but 3B Logan Thomason stuck with it and threw out Johnson trying to score from second from about 80 feet into the outfield. A nice 5-2 putout to quell an early Y’alls scoring threat.

The age old adage is when you make a nice play, you usually find yourself at the plate the next inning. In the 2nd, Logan Thomason laced [another] extra base hit, doubling into the right center gap to score LF Ronald Washington from first. Thomason would score on an RBI single up the middle by 2B Walner Espinal. Espinal now has 5 RBI in his last 7 starts. Lake Erie led early 2-0.

It would take until the 6th inning for the Y’alls to score a run off Jack Eisenbarger. It came in the form of a deep sacrifice fly by 3B Brian Fuentes. Then, CF TJ Reeves launched one over the left field fence (his Florence leading 6th HR) with two outs to tie the game 2-2. The long ball was the first Eisenbarger has surrendered this season.

But, DH Jack Harris would get it right back with a homer of his own (his 4th) to retake the lead 3-2. Back-to-back games with a homer for Harris, who took advantage of the Y’alls keeping starter Jonaiker Villalobos on the bump in the 7th inning.

RHP Christian Scafidi would relieve Eisenbarger in the 7th. Eisenbarger’s line coming off his no-hitter: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K on 89 pitches. A quality start for a quality starter. He left in line for the win thanks to the Harris homer.

Scafidi and Kenny Pierson would combine for scoreless innings in relief to get the Crushers to the 9th.

Trevor Kuncl came in and struck out the side in the Y’alls half of the 9th to to log his Frontier League leading 9th save of the season. The Crushers taking game one in Florence, 3-2.

Jack Eisenbarger (4-2) gets the win, his fourth straight in four starts. Jonaiker Villalobos (1-3), the former Crusher, despite going seven strong innings gets the loss.

The win keeps the Crushers within a game of 1st place in the Frontier League West standings.
