Crushers Use The Long Ball To Win Series

Crushers win the game by a score of 11-2 to Schaumburg

AVON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy Health, used raw power to beat the Schaumburg Boomers today 11-2. When it was all said and done, Lake Erie lived up to their name and crushed five homers in today’s game.

The Crushers (45-38) are now up by 4.5 games on the Boomers for sole possession of first place in the East. While the Boomers (41-43) fall to 4-12 in the month of August.

Pat Ledet (6-4) picked up the win today as he gave up only one run on eight hits, walked three and struck out two over his 6.0 innings of work. Connor Reed (4-7) got the loss and he gave up six runs on six hits over his 1.2 innings pitched.

Lake Erie put on a hitting clinic for those in attendance. The Crushers scored 11 runs on 16 hits with six of their hits going for extra bases. The scoring started early for Lake Erie and never slowed down. A pair of RBI singles from Steven Kraft and Logan Farrar scored two runs in the first inning.

In the second, the Crushers put up four runs on five hits. The inning started off with back-to-back homers hit by Dre Hubbard and Karl Ellison. An RBI sac fly from Farrar scored the third run of the inning while an RBI single from Kraft plated the fourth run.

Lake Erie scored three more runs in the third with a two out three-run homer off the bat of Emmanuel Marrero.

Their final two runs came from one guy, Jake Vieth. Vieth spanked a solo home run over the right field fence in the sixth, and then homered again over the centerfield wall in the ninth.

The only two runs of the game for Schaumburg came in the first inning and in the seventh. In the bottom of the first, Quincy Nieporte hit an RBI single to score Clint Hardy and at the time make it a 2-1 game. In the seventh inning, Chase Dawson hit a solo homer for the Boomers second run of the game.

Schaumburg had opportunities to score but left a small village on the base paths today. By the end of the game, the Boomers had left 11 runners on base. The Boomers had 11 hits in the game but one two runs to show for it.

Eight out of the nine batters for the Crushers recorded a hit while all nine reached safely at least once. Aaron Hill finished his day going 3-4 with three runs scored. Emmanuel Marrero hit his 13th homer of the year with his three-run blast as he went 1-5. Logan Farrar continues to impress in a Crushers uniform as he went 2-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Stevn Kraft’s final line read 2-5 with two RBI. Jake Vieth hit his 13th and 14th homers of the year and finished his day 2-5. Dre Hubbard hit his first homer as a Crushers this year and went 1-4. Karl Ellison hit his 3rd homer of the year today and finished his day going 2-5. Zach Racusin jumped in on the fun and went 3-5 with two runs scored.

The Crushers will have the day off on Monday but will start a four-game series with the Windy City Thunderbolts on Tuesday at Sprenger Health Care Stadium in Avon, Ohio.
