Crushers Roster Rounding into Shape with Fresh and Familiar Faces

Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, are hoping a combination of fresh and familiar faces can lead the organization to a successful 2018 season.  Manager, Cam Roth, is bringing back a dozen members of the 2017 squad as well as adding more than a dozen new players heading into 2018 Spring Training.

Leading the way among the returning group will be Sprenger Health Care Systems, 2017 Player of the Year Sean Hurley.  Hurley hit .263 last season while clubbing 15 Home Runs and 58 Runs Batted In.  Among the other returning 2017 Crushers are catcher Bryan De La Rosa (.297 / 1 HR / 11 RBI), first baseman Conner Simonetti (.303 / 5 HR / 21 RBI), and outfielder LJ Kalawaia (.326 / 2 HR / 19 RBI).

On the mound, Roth is bringing back starters Nick Deeg, (3-3 / 3.13 ERA), and Payton Lobdell (4-5 / 4.98 ERA), along with reliever, Seth Lucio (2-2 / 4.84 ERA).

Those returning vets will be competing with several key additions when Spring Training begins Thursday, April 26th. Outfielder, Cameron Newell, acquired from the Gary South Shore Railcats of the American Association, (.263 / 2 HR / 19 RBI) brings an experienced bat and glove to the middle of the field and line-up. Brett Balkan (.331 / 3 HR / 34 RBI), should also provide some pop as well as solid defense in the middle of the Crusher infield.

Roth has also added several strong arms to the pitching rotation with the signings of starter Aaron Myers (2-0 / 3.86 ERA), and relievers Branden Nunn (3-0 / 3.18 ERA), Tim Holmes (1-0 / 5.10 ERA) and Chase Davis (0-1/2.62 ERA.)

The Lake Erie Crushers open their home season at Sprenger Health Care Stadium Tuesday, May 15th against the Normal Cornbelters.  Single game tickets are on sale through the Crushers Box Office at 440-934-3636 or at www.lakeeriecrushers.com
